Power Solution
With today's proliferation
of low power applications, lowering energy consumption without sacrificing
performance has become a critical concern for designers of chips
used to power today's digital economy. UMC is committed to providing
customers with the latest low power solutions, including low power
and low leakage transistor options for advanced technologies such
as 65nm
and 45nm. UMC also provides silicon verified multi Vt
reference flows
for low power designs, providing customers with a streamlined path
to silicon that allows our customers designing power efficient SoCs
to capitalize on today's low power market opportunities.
In addition, UMC has worked with leading
low power partners ARM - Artisan, National Semiconductor Corporation,
and Synopsys to deliver the ULTRA 926, a UMC Low-power Technology
demonstrator Reference design for the ARM926EJ-S core. The "ULTRA"
technology demonstrator utilizes UMC's 130e Fusion process, a 0.13um
process platform that allows the integration of high-speed and low-leakage
transistors in a single CMOS process. The technology demonstrator
includes a finished SoC, a demonstration printed circuit board (PCB),
and software, and will show how each company's low-power capabilities
contribute to a comprehensive low-power offering. A 50% reduction
in power consumption has in fact been demonstrated on silicon.
